Driving in heavy weather

The evening news in Houston is all about the weather that I drove through earlier today on my way home from Austin. In my '17 CB, with rear tires just about at the wear bars. There was a lot of water on the highway, but traffic was fairly light and running at high speeds 75-85 mph. I could feel the car hydroplaning momentarily, but I can't say for sure if it was the front or rear end. Ultimately, the car tracked straight, but I had to remind myself not to white-knuckle it. For part of the trip the skittish feeling was augmented by a side wind, with reported gusts to 40+ mph.

Also, a brake pad wear warning came on after about 2 hours of this wet driving. It cleared on the next restart. My pads are new, so I'm not concerned; I just wonder how (if) the weather could have triggered the warning.

Edit: Forgot to say, yes, I'll put on new P-Zero N1s. I really appreciate the Tire Rack / Discount Tire hookup, which gives me a super-easy alternative to the dealerships.

Tire Rack for information and Discount Tire for mounting, etc. I learned something from my Porsche Service Advisor when I was looking for Pilot Sport 4S tires for my Cayman. Tire Rack gives Porsche dealers special access to the N spec tires. Tire Rack said "out of stock" but the dealer got me tires at the same price in a couple of days. I got the tires I wanted, great service and brownie points with my Porsche dealer. (BTW, I have no connection to them.)

I also get all my tires from the dealer - track Michelins and Hoosiers, winter sets, summer performance - all discounted as much as anyone else and with all the brownie points you mentioned. In addition, there is the knowledge that Porsche techs are the ones doing the work, so it's not only done correctly but other potential needs can be spotted while the car is on the rack. They always go over the car for me plus they have the tools, the training and the know-how.

My CPO Cayman came with new Yokohama Advan Sport all around as part of the pre-delivery maintenance. In all my other cars I ran UHP tires such as Michelin, Bridgestone and Vredestein.
The Yokohamas were impressive in the recent road trip in the heavy rain, their behavior was very predictable and confident especially when hitting the puddles in the cupped part of the mtn roads we were on.

For those who drive their 718's all year around, at what point do you make the switch over to all season tires? My 718 came with the Pirelli summer tires, and am shopping now for a set of winter rim/tires.

Late November here in the South.

We don't have much snow here but it can be nasty when we do get it - lots of hills. Ice can be an issue as well as heavy rain and standing water.

Summer tires all year for me in Houston, where it's seldom very cold. If it is, I walk, or Uber, or just go to Mexico

I tried driving my macan last year all year around (summer/performance tires)... Once it hit -4, the tires felt like they stopped being tires lol.
