Hi All,
Seeking any door mechanism experts here. I have an issue with the drivers door release. I have changed the lever and I am on the last thread with the plastic ball joint connector, however the door still won't release from the outside. the handle will depress fully but doesnt seem enough to relase the catch.
Anyone had similar issues?
Thanks,
Anthony
Door release issue - Stumped!
The short answer is that your door handle is worn out. The working surfaces of the handle itself have worn through the black anodizing and have lost motion at the critical part where the trigger moves the rest of the linkage.
If you were to time travel back to the 80s, a bit of lubrication at that point might extend the life of that handle, but in the current day, the only real solution is to source a new handle that is not worn out and lubricate the contact points (lithium grease seems to work well.)

Thanks. I have a second hand one I managed to get for free that I planned to try out. Will see how that goes before/If i commit to a brand new one.gb951 wrote: Fri Feb 06, 2026 5:50 am The short answer is that your door handle is worn out. Here in the USA, it is almost always the driver side door handle that wears out. I often thought that sourcing the door handle from a country with right hand drive might work out, since they have the driver and passenger side swapped. Less usage > less wear.
Unfortunately, tariffs have made this option less appealing.

I had a similar problem a few years back and replaced the main ~6” vertical shaft with a new (and stiffer) one. No problems since.
It’s worth replacing the plastic parts at the same time.
