I had my 992 serviced this week and apparently there is a recall on the PCM software due to the back-up camera not working at times. Unfortunately, the updated software is apparently not available yet, so the service advisor told me they'd let me know when it's ready -- and it apparently takes hours to do... I asked if this was just an abundance of caution type update and she seemed to imply they were seeing real examples in their shop...

Yes. And, as usual, Porsche mailed the recall/update notices to customers long before the fix was ready.

Is that a thing? I thought is was weird to get a recall notice before they had a fix...

It happens often according to those I talk to who know, at least more often than it should. It should be never.

How very un-German of them... :wtf: :wtf: It would be less amusing if my car were actually showing problems, but she seemed to suggest they could do 'something' if it were already happening on my car.

It could be that Porsche wants to keep owners informed so they don't necessarily think they are the only ones with an issue. But I agree it makes more sense to say, "Hey there owner, you might have an issue and here is the fix if you do".

They may also be required to send the notice once they know of the issue.

That said, it kind of takes liberties with the basic word 'recall,' which Merriam-Webster defines as "a call to return." More like a Precall.

My local dealership called last week to tell me that the fix is ready. Do you know how long it took to do yours?

My shop told me, once they had it, it would take too long to wait in the lobby for -- like 4 or 5 hours.
